EU commissioner Phil Hogan takes aim at ‘hypocritical’ DUP and London on food tariffs

Surrounded by farm lobbyists, business and banking executives, diplomats and an experienced former Fine Gael colleague, Phil Hogan, the EU agriculture commissioner, seemed as happy as the proverbial pig in muck at an Irish Farmers Journal conference on global trade in Dublin’s RDS last Friday.

Hogan was playing his familiar role of Brexit “bad cop”, let off the leash by the European Commission to lash out at politically recalcitrant types threatening to impede progress in the talks on Britain’s withdrawal from the EU.
