Hamptons Beach Ranked In Nations Top 10 — Again

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — One of the most gorgeous beaches in the Hamptons has once again received a nod — Coopers Beach was named one of America‘s Top 10 Beaches for 2019 by Dr. Beach.

Coastal expert Stephen “Dr. Beach” Leatherman, a professor at Florida International University, creates the list every year using 50 criteria, which include water, sand quality, safety and management.

In past years, Dr. Beach has said that Coopers Beach, which ranked #4 on his list for 2019, “is located on the south shore of Long Island, New York, shielded from the cold Labrador currents in the beautiful village of Southampton.”

Dr. Beach has added in the past that, as the first “Gold Coast” in the country, “Coopers Beach is hundr of yards wide, made of grainy white quartz sand. The beach is backed by large sand dunes covered by American beach grass interspersed with large and extravagant mansions. Some of the best beach access in the Hamptons exists on Coopers Beach, and a snack bar serving lunch and drinks can be found here as well.”

Dr. Beach has been compiling the list since 1991. This year isn’t the first time Coopers Beach has made the list; the beach has appeared numerous times, even taking the top spot in 2010 and coming in at #5 in 2017.

This year’s winner is Kailua Beach Park in Oahu, Hawaii, which ranked #1 on Leatherman’s list.

“Kailua Beach Park is a beautiful white sand coral beach with generally small waves, making it great for swimming and kayaking. A very popular activity is to paddle a kayak to the nearby picturesque offshore islands; the larger one has a nice sandy beach. Kailua Beach Park has lifeguards on duty, free parking, bathrooms, beach showers, picnic tables, volleyball courts and kayak rentals among other amenities. It is only minutes away from the village of Kailua where there are good restaurants, or you can pick up plate lunches and drinks for the beach,” he said.

Here’s the 2019 list in order, according to Dr. Beach:

10. Beachwalker Park Kiawah Island, South Carolina
9. Coronado Beach, San Diego, California
8. Hapuna Beach State Park, Big Island, Hawaii
7. Caladesi Island State Park Dunedin/Clearwater, Florida
6. Coast Guard Beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
5. Duke Kahanamoku Beach, Oahu, Hawaii
4. Coopers Beach, Southampton, New York
3. Grayton Beach State Park Florida panhandle
2. Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach, Outer Banks of North Carolina
1. Kailua Beach Park, Oahu, Hawaii

Coopers Beach also received another nod in 2018: According to a post on Only In Your State, the beach was compared to 1 of 7 spots in New York State like a “Caribbean paradise.”

Two spots in the stunning Hamptons made the list of Top 7 — Cooper’s Beach in Southampton and Cupsogue Beach County Park in Westhampton Beach.

“Known for being one of the best beaches out on Long Island, Coopers Beach in Southampton will make you feel like you’ve traveled to another oceanic planet,” the post said. “There are tons of oceanfront places out on Long Island that will make you feel like you’re worlds away from it all, but the water and pristine sand here at Coopers Beach isn’t comparable to anything else in this area.”
