Boston-based GasBuddy normally focuses on helping motorists find the gas stations with the lowest-priced gasoline through its website and app; on Tuesday it released the compilation of three years’ worth of data on the other kind of “pit stop.”
Among companies with at least 20 locations in New York, Stewart’s Shops was judged to have the best facilities. But the company has only a handful of stores outside New York, so it didn’t get a chance to win a second state. Nearby states were dominated by WaWa (Pennsylvania, New Jersey), Cumberland Farms (Connecticut, Rhode Island) and Irving (Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine).
GasBuddy’s 2019 summer travel survey found the subject to be no gagging matter: 40% of responding motorists say they fear not being able to find a clean restroom in their time of need, up from 37% in 2018. But there are signs for cautious optimism: Nationwide, gas station bathrooms are 6% cleaner now than in 2017, the survey found.
