Melania to meet with British vets and school children – details of her London visit which will tie to her Be Best …

First Lady Melania Trump will visit British school children and veterans when she is in London later this week.

The first lady will have a solo agenda apart from President Donald Trump‘s that will be tied to her Be Best children‘s campaign, her office told the DailyMail.

‘She’s looking forward to representing the United States, and also exchanging ideas around issues facing children with her counterparts,’ Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communication director, said in a statement.

One of her London events will be tied to her Be Best campaign

Melania Trump is on her first overseas trip since her kidney procedure in May.

While she will be with her husband every step of the way on his week-long European trip, she will have her own solo events and agenda.

In Belgium Wednesday she joined the spouses of other NATO leaders at a musical performance, chocolate tasting and fashion show as her husband meet with world leaders.

She will join the president Wednesday evening for a NATO dinner at the Art and History Museum at the Cinquantenaire.

The first couple heads to London on Thursday. It will not be an official state visit with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with such a designation but, instead, a working visit.

While her husband meets with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Melania will have her own agenda with Philip May.

‘He’s looking forward to meeting Melania. They were both at the G20 but because of timetables and so forth he wasn’t able to meet her there.

He has been out and bought a new suit,’ Theresa May told theSunday Times.

But Melania‘s time in London could be marred by the thousands of protestors expected to turn out for the Trump‘s visit.

While the president is likely to avoid the worst of it – as he’ll be having meetings and events in the British country side – the first lady will be in the capital city in the center of the storm.

Details haven’t been released on what school she will visit or where she will meet with veterans but children have long been an interest for the first lady.

She announced her ‘Be Best’ campaign, centered on kids, in May.

And Melania Trump is mimicking another first lady’s visit to London.

Michelle Obama’s stop at a London‘s girls’ school in April 2009 was where she felt like she found her feet as first lady.

It may be the same for Melania.

And while it’s not a formal state visit, there will be plenty of opportunities for the first lady to shine.

The president and first lady arrived in Europe on Tuesday for a week-long visit

The first lady has focused on children‘s issues as part of her agenda

The Mays will host a glitzy black tie dinner for the Trumps on Thursday evening at Blenheim Palace, the ancestral home of the Spencer Churchill family and the birthplace of Winston Churchill.

And Queen Elizabeth II will welcome the first couple at Windsor Castle on Friday with a military parade before they have tea.

Buckingham Palace said Wednesday the Trumps will be greeted by an honor guard formed of the Coldstream Guards and will receive a royal salute before the U.S.

national anthem is played.

But her time in London with school children is where Melania Trump may be most comfortable.

On previous overseas trips she has focused on children, her main area of interest.

Last November, in Japan, she and First Lady Akie Abe visited a local school where they learned to write in calligraphy.

She also met with school children at the Beijing Zoo in China and took a private tour of the Great Wall.

She also tends to focus on children‘s hospitals when she travels aboard, having spent time with sick children on five of her last foreign trips.

When she was in Brussels last May for the NATO meeting, she stopped by the Queen Fabiolo Children‘s Hospital, where she spent time doing arts and crafts, posing for selfies, and giving lots of hugs. She also brought gifts for the children, including Dr.

Seuss books and souvenirs from the White House.

In Italy, the first lady charmed children she visited at the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome when she spoke to them in Italian.

She also visited the Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris.

And she visited Hadassah Medical Organization, a leading Israeli hospital that is also known as a center of coexistence between Arabs and Jews, when she joined the president in the Middle East last May.

After London, the first couple will head to Scotland, where Trump‘s mother was born and the president is expected to visit at least one of his golf courses. The last time he was in Scotland was as a presidential candidate.

Finally they’ll head to Helsinki for the president‘s sit-down with Putin.

Melania Trump has had one-on-one time with Putin before.

During a G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, last year she and Emanuela Mauro, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni’s wife, sat on either side of the Russian president

She also ran interference with the president and Putin when the White House dispatched her to interrupt a Trump and Putin meeting that was running overtime.

Their scheduled 30 minute sit-down went on for two hours and 16 minutes.

‘Several times, I had to remind the president, people were sticking their heads in the door, and I think they even sent in the First Lady at one point to see if she could get us out of there, and that didn’t work either.

We went another hour after she came in to see us, so clearly she failed,’ then Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said after the meeting.

In addition to this being her first overseas trip since her kidney procedure, it is her first foreign travel this year.

She did not join the president on his two earlier overseas travels – the G7 summit in La Malbaie, Canada nor his Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

She wasn’t allowed to fly, the president told reporters.
