Sawyer Community Fund grants to aid improvements at Boonville’s Erwin Park

The Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has announced two grants for improvements in Erwin Park in Boonville:

• $4,000 to help purchase inclusive playground equipment, including a wheelchair swing and interactive play station; and

• $2,000 toward a splash pad as part of a master renewal project.

The Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund was established in 2018 as a geographic-specific fund to support programs, projects and initiatives that broadly impact and enhance the quality of life in Boonville, Constableville and Westernville.

Kenneth Sawyer was a Boonville native, served in the U.S.

Army, and worked a Layng Furniture Company and as a supervisor at Erwin Park.

He played tenor saxophone in high school and clarinet in the Boonville Village band and with three drum and bugle corps in Boonville and Rome.

Jennette Remp Sawyer worked 45 years at Rome Savings Bank, served on the finance committee of Boonville United Methodist Church, and assisted organizations such as Daughters of the American Revolution, Dodge Pratt Northam Art and Community Center, the Erwin Library, and the Boonville Cemetery.

The $4,000 grant is to the Village of Boonville, and the $2,000 grant is to support the renewal project of the Friends of Erwin Park, which was established in March to coordinate with the village on the master plan.

Since 1929, the Northern New York Community Foundation, headquartered in Watertown, has invested in improving and enriching the quality of life for all in communities across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
