NEW YORK CITY — Don’t panic. Grocery stores across New York City will remain open on Thanksgiving for you, and all those people just like you, who completely forgot you might need sweet potatoes to make sweet potato pie.
The Department of Sanitation won’t be collecting garbage, recycling or organics on Thanksgiving Day. If your trash and organics are normally picked up on Thursdays, you can put them out after 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving for pickup on Friday.
All New York City public schools are closed on Thanksgiving Day. So are all city, state and federal government buildings. Thanksgiving is a postal holiday, post offices are closed and mail won’t be delivered on Thursday.
