Up to 300 giant white complexes are expected to wither and die in the coming years as consumers abandon the habit of driving around the suburbs to the temples of consumerism.

The commissioners for Miami-Dade county in Florida, however, have bucked this trend to follow a new vision.

They have approved plans for the most expensive shopping centre ever. Triple Five, a Canadian company, intends to build the American Dream Miami mall on 174 acres of wetland at a projected cost of $4 billion.
