This is the incredible moment an angry elephant charged at a van full of tourists on a safari.

The giant was walking with its herd when it ran towards the van at the Maseke Game Reserve, South Africa, in an effort to scare the visitors away from its calves.

Frank De Beer, a safari guide from Hopruit, Limpopo, South Africa, filmed the incredible footage after spotting the animals moving along a dust road.

The visitors managed to stay impressively calm during the close encounter, with Mr De Beer providing a laconic commentary throughout.  

He said: ‘We were on a morning safari, and as we came around the corner of a road, there was a whole breeding herd of elephants in the road.

‘There was also the scent of lions circling in the air, making the elephants more nervous with their little calves.

‘When I saw the elephants charge towards the van I was filled with adrenaline and very excited.

‘I’ve read about this type of behaviour from elephants before and knew that there was nothing to be scared of.’
