These tourists had a miracle escape after an angry bull elephant charged their safari truck forcing the driver to jump for his life to avoid being gored to death on its lethal tusks.

The group of European and Japanese tourists were driving through the African bush when the safari guide behind the wheel points out the tusker on the right of the vehicle.

As he is seen recording it on a cell phone and iPad the elephant suddenly flares its ears up and then flattens them and begins to charge as the guide shouts to try and deter it.

A group of European and Japanese tourists were on a safari tour in South Africa when an elephant attacked their truck

As they were driving through the African bush, the animal flared its ears up and charged the the vehicle

The tourists who were in an unknown location in South Africa all begin screaming frantically as the elephant crashes into the side of the truck with its two-foot long ivory tusks.

The terrified woman filming the footage loses a few moments of footage as she turns away and when she resumes filming the elephant the driver is gone but the attack continues.

The elephant which could be heard trumpeting as it charged begins to smash up the dashboard and the driver’s side of the truck with its tusks in an attack that last 20 seconds.

When the safari guide spotted the elephant he pulled out his phone to try and film it

But the animal crashed into the side of the truck with its ivory tusks and ripped through the vehicle with its trunk

The front of the truck was left in a crumpled metal heap (pictured) following the attack

The angry elephant is then gone as quickly as it appeared and the driver can be heard saying ‘are you ok people’ and a relieved woman answers breathlessly ‘we are ok yes’.

Elephants are usually seen as docile animals until they are provoked or protecting their young and an estimated 500 people are gored or trampled to death by the mammals each year.

An adult African elephant can be 11 feet tall and 21 feet long and can weigh 6 tons.
